Mr. Siegel’s discussion of the music of Chopin focused on composer’s relations with women. This is the most typical approach to Chopin’s music but it misses the key ingredient: Chopin’s love and nostalgia for his homeland - Poland. It is the feeling of drama, passion and longing for his beloved country that he lost forever at the age of 20 that was the formative factor and the driving force behind his musical genius. The lyricism of his music does not necesarily refers to women but rather to the beauty of the nature of his beloved Poland that he could only see in his imagination and paint for us through his ethernal music. All the romantic women’s talk is just a mere show-off to attract more audience.
