Dexter Gordon, Sonny Rollins and John Coltrane are three of jazz’s greatest tenor players. They came up listening to giants like Lester Young and Coleman Hawkins and later incorporated what they learned from boppers like Bud Powell and Charlie Parker. In turn, they influenced a legion of players, including Cleveland tenor saxophonist Ernie Krivda. Prior to a Tri-C Jazzfest concert he gave in their honor, Ernie dropped by the ideastream studios to chat with Dan Polletta about why each of those musicians was so important to him.
