Billie HolidayIn 1953, photographer Frank Kuchirchuk shot photos of some of the greatest names jazz at the legendary Cleveland club Lindsay’s Sky Bar. Now 84, Kuchirchuk is donating his collection to the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. The photos will be cataloged and archived in the Conservatory’s soon to open Phyllis Litoff Building which will serve as the home for school’s jazz studies department. ideastream’s Dan Polletta spoke to Kuchirchuk about his photos and his memories of Cleveland’s rich jazz scene. We’d love to hear your stories, too. Tell us about your favorite jazz club in the area, past or present, or a great set you heard at Lindsay’s Sky Bar, Gleasons, the Jazz Temple, Peabody’s Down Under or Nighttown in the comment section below. Check back to see what your fellow Cleveland club goers remember about their favorite spots.
