Playing jazz trumpet is tough. Mastering classical trumpet is no walk in the park, either. Trying to do them both? Not easy. Through study and plenty of hard work, Akron native Josh Rzepka has developed into both a fine jazz and classical trumpeter. The Oberlin Conservatory graduate, who is now pursuing his Masters degree at Boston University, has just released his first compact disc: Midwest Coast. A few days before Josh celebrated the release of the disc with a concert, he talked to ideastream’s Dan Polletta about his career path, his mentors and his approach to making this debut date.
