In the last decade, Sean Jones has quickly become one of the hottest young trumpeters in jazz. Jones leads his own group, records for the Mack Avenue label and has been featured in both the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and the Gerald Wilson Orchestra. Now, the Warren Ohio native returns to his roots as he comes home to take over as the artistic director of the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra. Jones sat down with ideastream’s Dan Polletta, on the eve of the CJOs first concert of the 2009-10 season to talk about what it was like to return to the band and play with his old teachers, as well as his plans for the band. Sean also brought his trumpet and played a few tunes in the Key Bank Studio.
