It's logical to think that if a hospital performs many coronary bypass surgeries that its success rate would be higher than another hospital that rarely performs that procedure. Studies have verified this notion that higher surgical volumes lead to better outcomes. However it appears this correlation is procedure specific. In other words if a hospital is good at cardiac procedures, and does a lot of them, it doesn't necessarily mean its good at abdominal procedures.
