Congressman Dennis Kucinich got more attention on Capitol Hill for his impeachment resolutions against the White House. The Ohio Democrat testified before the House Judiciary Committee along with other war critics. Sara Sciammacco reports from Washington.
{Kucinich attracted a crowd of anti-war protesters who cheered for him as he walked into the hearing room with his wife, Elizabeth. In his testimony, he asked committee members to take a vote on the three impeachment resolutions he introduced against President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney.
Kucinich (:09) “I am confident the reader will reach the same conclusions about culpability. I ask this committee to think, then to act, now.”
Kucinich charges the administration took the country to war on false pretenses. Texas Republican Lamar Smith argued Kucinich’s impeachment pleas are falling on deaf ears.
Smith (:13) “It seems as though we’re hosting an anger management class. Nothing is going to come out of this hearing with regard to the impeachment of the president. I know it, the media know it, and the speaker knows it.”
Democratic house leaders say they have no plans to bring Kucinich’s resolutions to the House floor for a vote.
