Brown was the keynote speaker today at the Ohio Conference on Labor in the New Energy Economy.

He said the total picture of what’s going on in Ohio related to new energy and technology is a larger than people realize, and that will factor big when the economy begins to turn around.

“There’s going to continue to be pain, there are going to be layoffs in the weeks and months ahead,” Brown said, “but I think Ohio is better situated today for long term economic growth in manufacturing and building the middle class then we were after the 1982 recession, when nothing really changed, it was just sort of the cyclical nature.”

Brown said he’s not giving up on the U.S. auto industry, and that he doesn’t consider the closing of Chrysler’s Twinsburg stamping plant – revealed in the company’s bankruptcy filing two weeks ago – to be a certainty.
