Ohio's first execution of the year went forward yesterday morning, this time with a slight change in the procedure. Thirty-nine year old Daniel Wilson of Lorain was put to death at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility in Lucasville for the murder of 24 year old Carol Lutz in 1991.
Alan Johnson is a reporter for the Columbus Dispatch and was a media witness to the execution.
The state changed its lethal injection procedure for this execution and those that follow, after a lawsuit claimed that condemned inmates may still feel pain.
Johnson says there was a longer wait after the sedating drugs were pumped in and that the warden shook Wilson to ensure he was completely out before the lethal drugs were administered.
