A 1.9-mill tax levy for Cuyahoga Community College passed by 58%. The levy makes up 26% of the college's operating budget, allowing the college to avoid some cut backs.

A 1.9-mill tax levy for Cuyahoga Community College was easily approved, 58 percent to 42 percent
.
Tri-C president Dr. Jerry Sue Thornton says the levy will help keep tuition low in a year where they’ve seen a 17% rise in student enrollment.
She says without the levy, which makes up 26% of the college’s operating budget, Tri-C would have had to face some serious budget shortfalls.

Dr. Thornton says, “We would have cut across the board and it would have been drastic cuts and the tri-c you know today would not have been the Tri-C of the future.”

Thornton says the levy is about equal to the cost of operating one of Tri-C’s campuses. She says its passage will allow the school to absorb another expected spike in student enrollment, already at a record level.
