We'll set the lawyer jokes aside and talk about a demonstrably altruistic effort undertaken by the Cleveland Bar Association. The CBA's members have volunteered tens of thousands of pro bono hours for people who couldn't otherwise afford an attorney. They'll handle civil (not criminal) matters for their clients. The whole thing is being coordinated by the Legal Aid Society. Officials from those organizations will be here to answer questions.

Short term prospects for Cleveland sports. The King James version of the Cleveland Cavaliers is flying high. But the team is soon to be under new ownership. The Browns are coming off an abysmal season in search of a head coach. The Indians closed out the free agent season by signing one sore-armed pitcher for their starting rotation. So what's ahead during the next 12 months or so for longsuffering Cleveland sports fans? We'll talk about it with Cleveland sportswriters Bud Shaw and Hal Lebovitz.

Urban sprawl. Public officials pretty much agree that urban sprawl can be an expensive problem, but they don't agree on what to do about it. Recently a legislative subcommittee worked on the issue and came up with some recommendations. We'll talk about them with a member of the subcommittee and a sprawl expert from Cleveland State University.

Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell announced last week that optical scanning machines will be the state's primary voting system. Mr. Blackwell's announcement isn't sitting too well with certain groups, like the visually impaired and some of Ohio's county election's officials. They say it's an order without discussion. The Secretary of State has given them until February ninth to react. Vote on the idea on 90.3 at 9.

Doug Hall says northeast Ohio needs to use innovation in order to grow. Hall will join us from his Eureka! Ranch - a consulting and invention firm based in Cincinnati. Women in Science. Harvard's president recently ignited public debate by pointing out some scholars' perception that women and girls don't achieve at the same level when it comes to math and science education (Note: he didn't espouse this as one of his beliefs). We'll talk to some experts at Case Western about a program there aimed at encouraging more women to get involved in the sciences.

Ohio High School sports. The OHSAA has recently issued new and tougher rules forbidding athletes from mixing it up with unruly fans. We'll talk about this and other scholastic sporting issues with the new OHSAA commissioner Dan Ross (former Avon Lake School superintendent).
