90.3 WCPN is launching a re-designed version of its long-time weekly regional business segment, which will broaden this important service and make it more diverse.
What is it?
This new segment is designed to be conversation about business and the economy conducted primarily among people involved in business, or watchdogs of business, and will be geared specifically toward issues of concern to Northeast Ohio. It aims to be a vehicle for insight, context, explanation, discovery, opinion, provocation, the sharing of personal experience and sometimes debate.
We expect to achieve editorial balance overtime by using a wide range of participants with different perspectives. Frequently, these conversations will present upsides and downsides, risks and benefits connected with the topic but some topics won’t yield themselves to such black and white distinctions. What is said by participants will not necessarily represent the view or policy of 90.3 WCPN ideastream or any of its staff.
When can I hear it?
This new segment typically will air during Morning Edition on Fridays at 7:50 AM though it may appear on additional days as warranted by the news. It will also be available online as a podcast here.
Who will participate?
Participants will come from a variety of vantage points, backgrounds and interests: local business executives, financial analysts, corporate economists, economic development officials, academics and consumer advocates, among others. Effort will be made to ensure racial, ethnic, political, philosophical and gender diversity as well.
Who selects them and how?
They will be selected by 90.3 WCPN journalists and chosen because of their relevant knowledge, position or experience. 90.3 WCPN will maintain editorial control of this new segment by picking the topics, selecting the participants and determining the line of questioning. The participants’ primary institutional affiliation will always be noted on the air and biographies of those who appear regularly are to be published on our website. Any significant stake participants may have, financially or otherwise, in the topic being discussed will be disclosed on the air.
