Are You "Ethnic"?

You might be surprised. As a citizen of the "Nation of Immigrants," you probably have family ties to another country. An easy way to start exploring your ethnic roots is to try out a unique service available at the Western Reserve Historical Society. The "What's in a Name" database features nearly a half million surnames found in the United States. Once your name is entered into the computer, a quick search will determine such things as: the origins and meaning of your name; where others live in the world with that name; and who the first person was to come to North America with that name. Here are a couple of examples (requires PDF reader):

Tracing "Barnett"
Tracing "Jablonski"

For a fee of $1.00, you'll be able to walk away with a printed piece of your history. For details on the service, you can contact the WRHS Library at 721-5722.

Tell Me More!
If that whets your appetite, you can further explore your ancestry by making use of the Western Reserve Historical Society's extensive genealogical collections. The WRHS staff will help you search the records to trace your family tree.
