Clevelander Finds Success in Comedy: An Interview with Andy Borowitz
Originally aired Monday, August 7
When Andy Borowitz was a student in the Shaker Heights school system, he found that cracking jokes was a sport at which he could excel. As an adult, he's made millions of people crack up as one of the creators, writers and producers of the series starring Will Smith, "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air." Borowitz also wrote for the cult hit "Square Pegs," the Emmy-nominated series "Day by Day" and the Oscar-nominated film "Pleasantville," as well as contributing to numerous humor columns to the New Yorker Magazine, the New York Times and TV Guide. He's recently published two new books, "Rationalizations to Live By," from Workman Publishing, and "The Trillionaire Next Door: The Greedy Investor's Guide to Daytrading" from Harper Press. Borowitz stopped by our studios recently on a book tour that brought him back home. And he told Dee Perry how he came to realize that being funny could actually be his life's work.
