Diabetes Association Pushes for Mandatory Coverage of Diabetes Supplies

In Ohio, insurance companies are under no obligation to cover supplies for people with diabetes. In a community where roughly one in ten people is diabetic, it's an issue that effects thousands of people. For 15 years, the Diabetes Association of Greater Cleveland has been pushing the state legislature to require insurance companies to pick up these costs, but the measure has died each time it was brought up. Last week the latest bill was introduced in the House with more than 30 lawmakers as sponsors. There's new optimism that this one will be the charm. ideastream®'s Eric Wellman spoke with Tammy Randall, director of education for the Diabetes Association of Greater Cleveland.
