Flight Options Cuts Dozens of Jobs

90.3 has learned that Cleveland-based Flight Options has laid off roughly 200 employees, including many pilots. The fractional-ownership jet company blames the cuts on the poor economy. ideastream’s Dan Bobkoff has more.

Bill Loophole May Undermine Economic Impact of Renewable Energy Portfolio Standard

On May first, 2008 Governor Strickland signed a new energy and utility bill into law. Among other things, the bill established the long-awaited Renewable Energy Portfolio Standard - legislation requiring that by the year 2025, 12.5 percent of the state's power come from renewable technologies like wind or solar. But the bill's language is murky, and as ideastream's Gretchen Cuda explains, not everyone thinks it's a victory for green energy.

The debate over locating the proposed Medical Mart and Convention Center went public, last night. On an otherwise pleasant Spring evening, 80 Cuyahoga County residents elected to sit in a Cleveland meeting hall and voice their two cents-worth on an economic development project currently budgeted at over 400 million dollars. ideastream®'s David C. Ohio House Paves Way for Cuyahoga Restructuring

The Ohio House last night approved an amendment authorizing a restructuring of Cuyahoga County government. This could put a reform plan by Commissioner Tim Hagan on the November ballot, but many democrats are crying foul. ideastream’s Dan Bobkoff reports.

Yesterday, the federal government posted the sharpest quarterly decline in US home prices since it started tracking them 17 years ago - 1.7%. Part of the problem is a huge and growing inventory of foreclosed and bank-owned houses that lenders are hustling to get rid of. Cuyahoga County has more than 11 thousand of these houses. And there's disagreement over what's the best way to clean up the mess. ideastream's Mhari Saito reports.

Two large property owners in Cleveland are Fannie Mae and the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Fannie Mae is a quasi-governmental company and the nation's largest buyer of home loans. HUD is a cabinet-level federal agency. Both are committed to helping expand affordable home ownership. And like lenders all over the country, both are swamped with foreclosed properties as a result of the mortgage crisis. But local rehabbers and city officials complain red tape at Fannie Mae and HUD is worsening the foreclosure mess. It's part 4 of our vacant property series. ideastream's Mhari Saito reports.
