When it comes to applying for jobs, the internet can sometimes feel like a black hole. People post a resume and often never hear anything back. But the web can also be a powerful networking tool. In this recession, people who lose their jobs have tools at their disposal that people didn't have in previous recessions. ideastream®'s Eric Wellman spoke with a woman who's job is helping other people get jobs. PNC Posts Near Record Earnings During First Quarter 2009

Cleveland Mayor Decries Court Ruling On Hiring

Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson is appealing a local judge's order that he says will lead to cutbacks in services and layoffs. The order was issued last week by Common Pleas Judge Peter Corrigan to force the city to comply with a charter provision requiring that employees pass a civil service exam. ideastream's Bill Rice reports.

The environment is on the minds of congress this Earth Day, as the House Energy and Commerce Committee holds hearings on draft climate change legislation. The American Clean Energy and Security Act, if enacted, would significantly curb greenhouse gas emissions in the coming years. This all comes on the heels of the Environmental Protection Agency last week declaring carbon dioxide and greenhouse gases a threat to public health. And, there's growing momentum toward a cap and trade system, where polluters would have a financial incentive to cut emissions.
