St. Augustine’s Feeds Thousands On Thanksgiving

While many of us will celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday at a bountiful table surrounded by family and friends, not all are so fortunate. But thanks to the efforts of legions of volunteer’s, thousands of less fortunate Northeast Ohioans will also receive sustenance and friendship. Ideastream’s Bill Rice ventured out Wednesday to check out the preparations.
Casino Battle Goes On Despite Voter Approval

A proposed ballot issue aimed at letting Columbus-area voters opt-out of a new gambling casino has been introduced in the Ohio legislature. As, statehouse correspondent Bill Cohen reports, it's unclear if the plan will ever make it to the ballot.
Ohio Hospital Layoffs Exceed Expectations

Signs Of Improvement In NE Ohio Jobless Rate

The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services says unemployment rates in most Northeast Ohio counties in October were substantially below the statewide jobless rate of 10.5%.
New numbers were released this morning, and show wide variations WITHIN the state. Three Northeast Ohio counties were among only six with rates below 8%, while the city of Cleveland had a 10.5% unemployment rate in October, and the city of Akron had a 10.4% jobless rate.

One of the faster growing segments of the beverage market are so called super berry drinks. They include fruits such as pomegranate, acai, and goji and they're available in almost any supermarket. These drinks are sold as powerful anti-oxidants with benefits to the heart. But a quick google search reveals the benefits don't stop there. Marketers claim the Acai berry can do everything from improve your skin, to help you lose weight. But for a lot of these drinks, the marketing is years ahead of the research. For this week's Tuesday Checkup, ideastream®'s Eric Wellman went to Dave's supermarket near downtown Cleveland where he met Plain Dealer reporter Brie Zeltner. A good portion of Northeast Ohio sits on a huge supply of natural gas that drillers have been tapping for more than a century. But, in recent years, as the boundaries between urban and rural fade, oil and gas wells have been edging closer to densely populated areas.
