Inner Belt in High Gear Again (Aired Feb. 17, 2006)
Listen to the MP3
Planning for Cleveland's I-90 inner belt reconstruction project gets back into high gear next week. For the first time, federal state and local planners together will meet with the public and behind closed doors to work out details - and differences. ideastream's Lisa Ann Pinkerton reports.
MidTown Cleveland calls Tuesday's public meeting "critically important." Gordon Procter, ODOT's Director, will be on hand to respond to community concerns, with Federal Highway Administration officials listening in. MidTown Corporation's Jim Haviland says he expects over 200 people to attend.
Later that afternoon, highway experts from around the county will gather to examine ODOT's plans and recommend ideas. David Lostovka is organizing the Accelerated Technology Transfer Workshop for ODOT. He says its all about the free flow of ideas.
David Lostovka: Construction techniques that aren't readily used in Ohio, but are used in other parts of the country, whether it's appropriate to try and implement that into this project.
Construction on the section of highway, stretching from the Inner Belt bridge near Tremont to Dead Man's Curve, is set to begin in 2009.
Lisa Ann Pinkerton, 90.3.
