If
Northeast Ohio were a potential employee, would you want to hire
it? This is the premise behind THE REGION’S RÉSUMÉ:
a multiple media series produced by ideastream. This series takes
a close look at Northeast Ohio's qualifications, examining its strong
and weak points. More importantly, it determines whether this region
has the right resources and vision to meet future challenges and
succeed.
A principle
underlining the research and production of THE REGION’S RÉSUMÉ
series has been that understanding and building on the assets of
our region will help us as we attempt to map a course toward success
in the future.
Through this
mini-series, which includes radio feature reports, a special television
broadcast, a radio call-in program, and detailed online content,
ideastream will explore the potential for positive economic outcomes
and successes in Northeast Ohio.
THE REGION’S
RÉSUMÉ will begin with a look at Northeast Ohio’s
past to show that in history lie lessons for the present and future.
The series will also examine the region’s current assets,
with a special look at the initiatives that few people may be aware
of - from “One Cleveland” to the “Power Partnership
of Ohio”. Building on this understanding, THE REGION’S
RÉSUMÉ will take a close look at the major steps government,
businesses and the citizens of the region might follow to achieve
a more viable and vibrant future for Northeast Ohio.
This multi-media
special series on WVIZ/PBS and 90.3 WCPN ideastream encourages Northeast
Ohioans to LISTEN, TALK, WATCH and CLICK as it examines the assets
of our “Region’s Résumé”:

Morning
News (Monday, February 21 through Thursday, February 24, 6:00 -
9:00 AM)
Monday,
February 21: Part one of a four-part series begins with
the historical context of our region’s assets that dates back
to Northeast Ohio’s days as a manufacturing powerhouse, and
identifies which of these assets are applicable to today’s
economy. Could those same traditional resources also be stifling
the creativity needed to make our journey out of recession? [More]
Tuesday,
February 22: Part two of the series moves us through the
bureaucratic resources that either help or inhibit an economic transformation.
When employers consider a job applicant, they often look at the
resources the contender has utilized and what intrinsic value she/he
brings to the job. When companies or industries consider a potential
region to call home, they look for similar attributes. Many government
leaders believe the region has the assets needed to get the hi-tech
‘job,’ but some business leaders say the ‘job’
is going to other states that are better prepared. [More]
Wednesday,
February 23: Rather than just talk about how the region
can accommodate hi-tech businesses, part three of the series uses
two companies to illustrate how it is already happening. One is
a long-established corporation and the other is a fairly new, start-up
that has some measure of success. [More]
Thursday,
February 24: The series concludes by defining which assets
are needed to attract business, what changes to the laws need to
take place and whether we have the tools to compete with other cities
who are also attempting to lure hi-tech to their regions. [More]
TALK to 90.3 @ 9
(Monday, February 28, 9:00 AM)
90.3 @ 9 presents
a radio call-in program connecting listeners with special guests
to comment on the series and explore the next steps that will need
to be taken to secure the region’s role in a hi-tech future.
WATCH
WVIZ/PBS
Ideas (Thursday, February 24, 9:00 PM)
This episode
of the WVIZ/PBS news and information program features panel discussions
with local business and government leaders who will explore the
riches and limitations of the region’s government and universities
assets, and what needs to change within the region in order to make
a hi-tech future more attainable. A segment on “The Tale of
Two Hi-Tech Companies” will look at one established company
that has managed to evolve, survive and flourish in this region,
and then will examine the other end of the spectrum through the
story of a young, hi-tech start-up. Beginning with an examination
of the history of Northeast Ohio’s tangible assets, and through
discussions with local experts vested in growing the region’s
hi-tech sector, Ideas will examine the Region’s Résumé
and what it means for its hi-tech future.
