He is Director of Public Affairs, Secretary of the Air Force Office of Public Affairs, at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. and he was inside the Pentagon when American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into it on 9-11. Ted Gup, an educator, journalist and author who has specialized in writing about spies and national security, will speak at John Carroll University Sept. 12, 2002, about how (or whether) the media has been changed by the attack of Sept. 11, 2001. The program, sponsored by the JCU chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, will run from 5:30-7 p.m. in the TV studio, O'Malley Center Room 7. It is open to JCU students, faculty and staff, as well as members of SPJ's Cleveland professional chapter and their guests. Gup, who is Shirley Wormser Professor of Journalism at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, holds a bachelor of arts degree from Brandeis University and juris doctor degree from CWRU. A former writer for The Washington Post and Time magazine, Gup is the author of "The Book of Honor: Secret Lives and Deaths of CIA Operatives," which won the 2000 Investigative Reporters and Editors Book Award.
