The Fisk Opus 116 Organ at Oberlin College's Finney
Chapel
1. August, 2000, at the back door of Finney Chapel: As one moving van full of organ parts is unloaded, another awaits. Even the boxes for moving are hand-crafted in the Fisk workshop in Gloucester.
2. Moving in: Moving delicate - and heavy - organ parts is a specialized job. The Walkerly Moving Company from Gloucester has been transporting Fisk instruments for years. Even so, it takes a team to safely guide the biggest pipes into the chapel hallway.
3. These long boxes contain some of the longest pipes of the new organ. The largest measures 32 feet in length. This instrument has a total of 3,951 pipes. Sixty stops and numerous pedal effects will allow the performer to access the innumerable combinations of pipes that will sound together and create the organ's rich voice.
